She was all alone in the world. First, her mother, and now her father had abandoned her. She had nobody left to call her own. She belonged to no one. Her mind slogged through the realizations, and she thought about them distantly, as if she were describing someone in a story, someone she had never met. A lost little girl, hardly grown, alone in the wide world, constantly at war, surrounded by untamed wildlands and savage beasts. No one left to love her. No one to run to when she needed comfort or a loving embrace. No more family.
A sharp, stabbing pain pierced her heart. Oh, Light, she thought. Am I dying now? Can dying be any worse than this?
